About the workshop

UPCYCLED is a series of bookbinding and weaving workshops taught by Anh Tran (of Kamipaper) focused on the core techniques of bookbinding and the creative use of upcycled materials. Colourful candy wraps, scrunchy plastic bags - these will become characterful tools to design, weave and bind our individual handmade books. *We hope to also weave bits of our culture and character into the work.

The workshop will have three parts: [20 mins] Guests will be introduced to the artist’s work, the art of bookbinding and a selection of binding techniques, which will be paired with our first tea (from flōoat) and treats (from sueperlicious bakery). [110 mins] Guests will design and weave their upcycled book cover using a cardboard loom, and create their notebook using a long stitch binding. [20 mins] We will wind down and have a roundtable sharing of work and thoughts, which will be paired with our second tea (from flōoat). Finally, guests will take home their unique handmade books and learnt skill!

This workshop is designed for adult beginners. No prior experience or knowledge is necessary. All materials will be provided, there is no need to bring anything to the workshop. Although it will be charming to bring any plastic waste that you'd like to turn into sewn creations. 12 guests per event. Saturday October 26th. Guilford Street, London WC1N 1DP.
