Flooat in June

by Lisa Chan

In The Classic of Tea (760), Lu Yu observes the rituals of tea spreading to the masses with the emergence of Tea Booths (Chatan) and Small Teahouses (Chaliao), shifting the identity of teahouses from refined architecture frequented by nobles to become an integral hub of Chinese communities - a place where neighbours met for news, socials, entertainment, and tea.

It is with this value that flōoat curates its calendar. In June, we will be hosting two social events in our tea room, Ways of Seeing: Portraiture workshop with Ya Wen Li, and Folklore Picnic: Squashes, Boy, and Donkey with Frea Lei. We will also be catering for the private view of it's a local collective's upcoming art exhibition 'Guilford's Parlour'. On Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the tea room will serve as a quiet space for working, studying, and chatting softly over tea.

We hope flōoat becomes a second home one returns to when they’re looking for a community, a space to learn about different skills, and a moment to share thoughts with yourself and others through tea. Check Rituals+Spaces for June events and reservations.
