About the workshop

WAYS OF SEEING is a series of drawing workshops led by International and London-based artists. The workshop on June 1st will be led by Ya Wen Li, a Taiwan-based Visual Artist and Illustrator.

The workshop will have three parts:

[20 mins] We will begin with a collective reading on "Ways of Seeing" by John Berger (2 page excerpt) on consciousness and subjectivity. This will be paired with our first tea (from flōoat) and treats (from sueperlicious bakery).

[110 mins] We will approach drawing as a ritual, allowing ourselves to slow down, immerse with our thoughts and open up with our gestures. We will portray our loved ones (human/animal/object) in not just their appearance, but with their quirks and personalities. We will not direct you, but offer support and reference on techniques and ways of expression through your journey.

[20 mins] We will wind down and have a roundtable sharing of work and thoughts, which will be paired with our second tea (from flōoat). Finally, guests will take home their hand-drawn portrait, that will be provided with a picture frame mount so it is ready to be gifted or hung!

This workshop is designed for adult beginners. No prior experience or knowledge is necessary. Colour pencils and Daler-Rowney Heavy Weight Smooth Paper are provided, there is no need to bring anything to the workshop. Although it will be charming to bring any materials you'd like to draw with and on. Please note that there are two types of tickets, 11.00 am morning session and 2.30 pm afternoon session. 12 guests per event. Saturday June 1st. Guilford Street, London WC1N 1DP.
