A Cloud and Flowers

by Lisa Chan

A Cloud and Flowers is a beautiful and intimate dialogue between Isamu Noguchi’s historic Akari lamps and a new mineral- and plant-based installation by Danh Vo at the Mudam’s Henry J. and Erna D. Leir Pavilion, Luxemburg. The conversation centres around the found expression in formal experimentations that crossed eastern and western cultures - in the works of Noguchi - and how it resonates with formal, thematic and conceptual preoccupations around origins and cultural translation - in the works of Vo. Found here, is a space and a dialogue that pays homage to the aritsts for their defiance of conventional categorisations of art and design and the hierarchies, for their translation of cultural traditions into contemporary form, and for their ambition for art as integral to contemporary life.
