这句话出自出自东汉·班固《答宾戏》,此处的原文是:

是以圣哲之治,栖栖遑遑。孔席不暖,墨突不黔。

汉语成语,原指东奔西走,每至一地,烟囱尚未熏黑,又到别处去了。后用其事为典,形容事情繁忙,犹言席不暇暖。

 

Comes from Dong Han's "Rhetoric Play", referring to a busy way of life - already on to the next destination before our chimney smokes from a cooked meal, before our seat is warmed - to remind us to slow down.
